‘Mr Consistency’… Pundit says Liverpool have an outfield player who’s so reliable he could even play in goal

Joe Gomez has quietly been one of Liverpool’s best players this season.

The former Charlton defender has been absolutely brilliant in almost every game he’s played this season in a number of different positions.

Indeed, Gomez has played at left-back, right-back and at centre-back this term and he’s excelled in every role.

Speaking on Liverpool’s YouTube channel, Ray Houghton has been discussing Gomez’s recent performances, and he joked that Gomez is so reliable as a player that he wouldn’t be surprised to see him play in goal for the Reds one day.

Houghton spoke highly of the defender.

“He might get a game in goals soon. He’s gone across the back four, you know with Joe that he’s one of those players you can always depend upon. Mr Consistency, wherever he plays he applies himself in the right way. He’s got a fantastic attitude, some will say he’s in there on merit at the moment. You can make a case for him at left-back, wherever he plays he will perform at his very best,” Houghton said.

It’s absolutely incredible how Gomez has transformed his reputation at Liverpool this season.

For the longest time, the defender was seen as being hugely unreliable due to his injury record, but this term, the one word you would use to describe Gomez is reliable.

He’s genuinely not put a foot wrong all season long, and it wouldn’t surprise us at all if Jurgen Klopp decided to start him in the biggest game of the season against Manchester City on Sunday.

Gomez’s improvement has been incredible to watch this season, and, as Houghton says, it’s so easy to trust the defender in any position – although we’re not too sure about the idea of playing him in goal.
