Tottenham Hotspur’s terrible week continued yesterday with a 3-0 humiliation at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion. In a game marred by a horror injury to captain Hugo Lloris, the seagulls won 3-0 thanks to Neal Maupay’s opportunistic opener and a double from Irish talent Aaron Connolly.

It follows a poor run of results for Spurs which includes a League Cup exit at the hands of Colchester United and a 7-2 home loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

In the wake of yesterday’s loss one Tottenham player stepped up and took ownership of their current poor form. The player in question might surprise some fans.

Moussa Sissoko released a statement on his social media apologizing to fans and asking for everyone at the club to stick together.

Sissoko’s emergence as a locker room leader is certainly surprising considering the low stock he once had at Tottenham.

Following a reported (BBC) £30 million move from Newcastle United in September 2016 the Frenchman struggled to find any form at the club.

In fact in the summer of 2017, as reported by The Guardian, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the only reason Moussa Sissoko remained at the club was because of a lack of interest. No Tottenham fan would have been disappointed to see him leave.

But last season he emerged as a key player for Tottenham and signed a new deal with the club in September. Like the bulk of the current Tottenham team, Sissoko is struggling for form this season.

However, he is not lacking in effort and seeing him own up to the club’s current problems is a brilliant breath of fresh air. Fans will hope he can keep proving doubters wrong after the international break and help Tottenham back to their best form.
