Moussa Sissoko was asked on Instagram if he misses playing alongside Mousa Dembele at Tottenham Hotspur, and the Frenchman replied with a brutally honest answer.
Dembele, who turns 32 next month, left Spurs in the January transfer window to join Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F. The fee is believed to be in the region of £11million (Telegraph).
The 82-time Belgium international’s exit has left a big hole in the middle of the park, with Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Sissoko and Victor Wanyama all spending time on the sidelines injured this season.
Despite that, Mauricio Pochettino has guided the north Londoners to fourth place in the Premier League and the Champions League final. Asked whether Spurs missed Dembele, though, Sissoko gave a very sincere response.
Dembele’s exit has certainly been felt by Spurs. His powerful presence in the middle of the park saw the north Londoners keep possession of the ball much better.
Since his departure, it has been a somewhat difficult ride for Spurs fans. Pochettino has seen his side win just 11 of 25 league and cup matches, which has included losses to Southampton, Burnley and Bournemouth.
Spurs are expected to be busy in the market this summer and their utmost priority should be bringing in a central midfielder with similar attributes to that of Dembele.
