Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has explained the team’s mentality towards a potential title challenge this season.

Can Tottenham Hotspur challenge for the title this season? They’ve certainly started impressively and while there are issues to iron out, the team has the look of potential champions.

Spurs are third after seven games and just two points behind leaders Liverpool. Fuelled by Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, they clearly have the ability to tear teams apart.

But the way they threw away a three-goal lead against West Ham United asked questions. Do they have the mentality? Are they consistent enough? The team needs to answer them if they’re to win silverware.

Spurs midfielder Moussa Sissoko discussed this on Wednesday. He outlined the mentality right now and how it can, hopefully, win trophies.

“Our main focus is to take it game after game,” he said, per Football London. “It’s not that one game is more important than the next one.

“We are all competitive and we want to go as far as possible. That is how big teams win trophies, to take it game after game and try to win each game.

“So we are focused on tomorrow and we have to make sure we win that one and then when we return we will think about Sunday.

“Step by step we will see where later we are in the season, but what we want is to go as far as possible and if we can win something it will be great.”

This is exactly what Spurs need to do – especially at a time when they’re growing as a side. If they can just go game by game, adjusting here and there, then perhaps they can compete.

But it’s a long season. They need to keep that mentality for the entire campaign and that’s the true test facing them this season. No one would argue that they don’t have the talent.

Fortunately, they’ve got a manager who excels at this. Jose Mourinho has won league titles in four different countries and knows how to deliver the goods. If he can keep his team focused, then perhaps that trophy drought finally comes to an end.
