Moussa Sissoko assessment tomorrow could be key to Tottenham’s Ajax hopes

Speaking after Tottenham Hotspur’s surprise defeat to West Ham United, Mauricio Pochettino discussed the club’s current injury situation.

As reported by Football.London, he addressed the situation surrounding several players with the main story being Harry Kane’s potential recovery for a hypothetical Champions League final.

“Vertonghen for sure, Sissoko, I don’t know we will have to assess tomorrow. I think Harry Winks no…

“If we are capable to beat Ajax and be in the final in June 1 then maybe yes (Kane will be fit). Yesterday we were talking about that, we’ll see.”

However, the most important aspect to take from his comments regards making the Champions League final revolves around Moussa Sissoko.

Sissoko’s groin injury has seen him miss the last three Premier League games and the team has thoroughly missed him.

It is hard to believe now, considering his standing among the fans at the start of the season, but Sissoko is now pivotal to the success of the Tottenham midfield.

Especially, against Ajax.

The Dutch side dominates the middle of the park and have done so against Real Madrid and Juventus. Frenkie De Jong and Donny van de Beek, in particular, are potential world-class midfield operators who, once they get you on the carousel, are reluctant to let you off.

Tottenham need Sissoko’s energy and drive in the heart of midfield to counteract the cool nature of that Dutch midfield.

Tottenham fans will be hoping the assessment on Sissoko is positive. If not, it could be a long night with Victor Wanyama or Eric Dier trying to do the same job.
