Marouane Fellaini continues to make the same mistakes

If any player had the potential to allow the pressure get to his head, it was Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian added physicality into the United midfield and showed early on that he was not afraid to get stuck in and leave his mark if required in what is often a heated derby clash.

However, the Belgian went too far in the final stages as he needlessly felled Sergio Aguero by clipping his ankles and pulling him back before going forehead to forehead with the Argentinean striker. Rather than walking away and accepting a yellow card, Fellaini thrust his head towards Aguero’s and earned himself a straight red.

That put United in a dangerous position with under ten minutes as they were forced back into their own half with City looking to exploit their extra man advantage and the lack of physicality in the Red Devils’ midfield. Fortunately for Fellaini, Pep Guardiola’s didn’t make the most of the opportunity. Now set to miss vital clashes including against Tottenham and Arsenal, he could still pay a hefty price.
