Report: Tottenham tried to sign ‘fantastic’ player on deadline day, now he could join Mourinho instead

Reports from Italy this weekend have claimed that Chelsea defender, Trevoh Chalobah, could be in line for a January move to Roma.

Corriere dello Sport claims that Roma boss Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Chalobah and is keen to explore the possibility of bringing him over to Serie A in the winter window. Mourinho has enjoyed success with other players from the PL in Rome, with Tammy Abraham excelling under the former Chelsea boss.

Of course, interest in Chalobah is bound to be of interest to Tottenham and their supporters. Back on deadline day just a few weeks ago, Tottenham actually tried to sign the ‘fantastic‘ Chalobah, only for Chelsea to put the breaks on any potential deal.

However, since then, Chelsea have changed manager with Thomas Tuchel departing for Graham Potter, and it remains to be seen if Chalobah will be part of the new Blues bosses plans. Chalobah has already dipped down the pecking order a tad as it is, despite a good breakout campaign last season with the Blues.

Spurs, meanwhile, are keeping active in the market as they look to ensure Antonio Conte remains backed. A summer spend of over £100m isn’t expected to put the club off backing Conte further. Chalobah being available, then, could be of intrigue to the Londoners.

TBR’s View: Chalobah Would Shine With Tottenham

Well, he’ll probably shine in Rome too under Mourinho. He’s such a good young player that there is every chance he really seizes his opportunity at his next club.

We’ve seen glimpses of his class and potential with Chelsea and there is no reason not to believe that with consistent game time, Chalobah can go to the next level.

Whether or not Chelsea would let one of their players join Tottenham, mind, is another matter entirely.
