Back in 2012, Jose Mourinho promoted a young Real Madrid defender, having given Nacho Fernandez his debut a year before. Fast forward eight years, and he would be the ideal Tottenham addition.
Mourinho was the man to give a 21-year-old Nacho the chance to shine in Real Madrid’s senior team and he remains a part of his boyhood club’s squad to this day. He has clocked up exactly 200 appearances for Real.
But the past season has been frustrating for 22-time Spain cap Nacho, who has four Champions League and two La Liga titles to his name. Just 10 appearances have come his way, and he has entered the final two years of his contract.
Portuguese outlet A Bola claim Nacho could finally depart Real, and a move to either Valencia or Benfica could be orchestrated. It is believed Nacho could be allowed to leave Real for just £9million.

Tribal Football reported in 2012 that Mourinho had promoted Nacho to the first team. Mourinho initially used him as a centre-back, but Nacho has since added strings to his bow – playing either side of the defence and in the middle.
Though right-footed, he has shown he can play at left-back. Spurs need cover in all areas of the defence – after losing right-back Kyle Walker-Peters and Jan Vertonghen, who could play at centre-back and left-back.
So, at a bargain £9million and with plenty owed to Mourinho, surely Tottenham have got to consider Nacho this summer to add top-quality and experienced cover to a defence that was somewhat shaky last season.
At a reported fee of just £9million, it is surely a no-brainer and one what will please Daniel Levy.
