Mourinho names two Spurs players who took most responsibility in 5-0 win

Jose Mourinho has lauded both Dele Alli and Gedson Fernandes, claiming – in comments reported by Football London – that it was the pair who took most responsibility in Tottenham Hotspur’s FA Cup tie with Marine.

Spurs rested a number of key players for their third round tie. However, they still boasted enough quality to suggest that a defeat would have gone down as one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history.

But Mourinho’s men were excellent. They won 5-0, scoring four before the break. Carlos Vinicius bagged a first-half hat-trick and Alfie Devine became the club’s youngest ever player and goalscorer after the interval.

The game also saw Gedson make only his second start of the season. Dele joined him in the side. And when asked about the latter’s performance, Mourinho seemed to suggest that he was very happy with both members of his squad.

“I like very much,” he said, as reported by Football London. “I think him and Gedson they were two players who were responsible from minute 10 until minute 75. They were the ones that created. They were the ones with mobility, they were the ones that started that dynamic that created problems for them and goals for us.

“So I’m really happy. Of course he was a little bit cautious, like all of the creative players, they were a little bit afraid of the pitch, of some emotional tackle.

“But very happy, very professional attitude and a good performance.”

Of course, a performance against Marine is unlikely to prompt the fans into calling for more game-time for Gedson and Dele.

But there were promising signs from the pair. Dele was pulling the strings for much of the contest. And Gedson certainly looked bright considering how little he has featured during his loan spell.

So perhaps the pair can hold out hope that the fourth round may bring another opportunity. Should they also impress at that stage – depending on the opposition – Mourinho may be left with a little more to think about.
