Spurs have been linked with Marcus Thuram in recent weeks.

And Jose Mourinho may have just handed Tottenham a boost in pursuit of the France international.

Foot Mercato reported in July that Tottenham saw Thuram as a priority signing.

But L’Equipe claimed that Roma had entered the race to sign Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Spurs were apparently in contact with the 24-year-old’s representatives before cooling their interest.

This gave the likes of Roma and Napoli the opportunity to touch base with Thuram’s camp, added the report.

But now, it looks as though Mourinho is looking to bring another striker to the Italian capital.

According to Sky Sports, Roma have agreed a £34million deal to sign Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.

The player must now decide whether he wants to join the Giallorossi, added the outlet.

Of course, given Abraham is a boyhood Arsenal fan, he may still hold out for a move to the Gunners instead.

But if the 23-year-old does opt for Roma, that would surely take them out of the Thuram race.

Who is Spurs target Marcus Thuram?

The son of France legend Lilian, Thuram started his career at Sochaux and earned himself a move to Gladbach in 2019.

He has made 79 appearances for the German club, with 25 goals and 21 assists under his belt.

Thuram’s efforts helped him make the France squad for Euro 2020.

Dennis Zakaria praised his teammate in 2019 after he scored a late winner against Roma in the Europa League 18 months ago.

“It was so important that Marcus scored that goal today,” said Zakaria, via Bulinews.

“He is a great guy, a little crazy maybe, but what he brings to the pitch is phenomenal.”
