Motherwell are reportedly in talks to sign Rangers attacker Jake Hastie this summer as Steven Gerrard has informed the young flyer he can leave on loan for a second time – and Well fans have urged their club to get a deal done.
Hastie, 22, broke into the Motherwell side in 2018-19 and scored an impressive seven goals in 18 appearances for Stephen Robinson’s side. Rangers signed the Scotland youth international, but he has played only twice.
Indeed, Hastie was loaned to English League One side Rotherham United – where he scored three goals in 16 games before returning to Ibrox in January. But Hastie is yet to play since January.
Now, the Scottish Sun claim Gerrard has told Hastie he can go on loan a second time since he joined the Gers – and Motherwell are in talks to bring Hastie back to the club, as they prepare for Europa League qualification.
The Gers have completed the permanent signing of Ianis Hagi, while also boasting Ryan Kent, Brandon Barker, Jamie Murphy, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield and others. Hastie has little chance of game time.
Motherwell fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that they are trying to re-sign Hastie from Rangers, and many are desperate to sign the player – bringing him back to Fir Park just a season after he left.
I think it’s a simple question is he better than what we’ve got already?yes so sign him?♂️

He’s a significant upgrade on Seedorf/Hylton in my eyes and has proven he’s an effective player at our level. Our fans slaughtered O’Donnell in his first game back, as they did with McDonald, Pearson and others, before welcoming then back. We’ve just got to be big boys about it.

I’d be happy to bring him back on a permanent deal and would give him a second chance. But NO WAY as a loan deal. Unless it would only cost us pennies for him a week and we didn’t want to spend a senior players wage on a unknown gamble at this time. Wouldn’t be thrilled with it

On a permanent basis yes, on a loan no thanks.

I know he didn't leave in the best way but I always thought Jake was a cracking young player, going into Europe I would like this if we were trying to get him in. I'm sure it would be frosty in the beginning for him but if he started scoring Im sure he'd be fine.
