Sunderland’s EFL Trophy win over Notts County last night threw up plenty of positives for manager Jack Ross. Bali Mumba was incredible, again highlighting talent way beyond his 17-year-old status. Duncan Watmore also made a long-awaited return, causing the first goal. Jack Bainbridge looked assured at the back whilst it was good to see Jerome Sinclair find the net form the penalty spot.
That penalty, however, was earned by the pace and hard-work of Swedish youngster Benji Kimpioka.
Signed from IFK Sirius in April 2016 the Swedish attacker has swiftly become one of Sunderland’s top talents. He had an impressive pre-season and in the summer Arsenal were keen on bringing him to North London.

After this display, fans will be pleased that was the case.
Strong, fast and skilful he looks a real handful for defenders at this level. He recently had an excellent international break with Sweden and looks to be a player on the verge of a breakout at Sunderland.
Kimpioka has featured just once in League One this season, coming on in the final minute of a 2-2 draw with Peterborough United last month.
Most fans now think he is ready for more League One action…
