Most Sunderland fans ecstatic with Luke O’Nien’s impact from the bench

Sunderland fans continue to be impressed by the summer signing’s improvement.

Sunderland had to fight back from two goals down against Walsall yesterday to claim a 2-2 draw. The Black Cats dominated the opening 20 minutes of the game but Walsall gained control after Max Power picked up his third red-card of the season.

However, Sunderland were not going away without a fight.

Aiden McGeady pulled one back in the 62nd minute. Lynden Gooch then scored the dramatic equaliser in what felt like a defining performance from Jack Ross’ Sunderland team.

The result keeps Sunderland second in the Championship and unbeaten in 13 games.

One man who deserves huge praise for his display is midfielder Luke O’Nien. Ross threw the midfielder on for Bryan Oviedo just after half-time and the summer signing had a huge impact on the game.

He provided the assist for the winning goal and Sunderland fans were again impressed by his display from the bench.

They were even more impressed with his celebration at the equaliser, as he bundled over a fan in almost rugby union fashion.

O’Nien arrived from Wycombe in the summer but struggled to settle in at the start of the season. However, chances have come his way recently and with Power seemingly unable to stay on the pitch Sunderland fans are now ready to see much more of the talented 24-year-old…
