Most Rangers fans want to see plenty more of former captain Lee Wallace

Rangers fought back from 1-0 down to get the better of St Johnstone today. Two goals from Alfredo Morelos gave Steven Gerrard’s side all three points in a tough fixture at McDiarmid Park.

The result did come at a price. Borna Barisic suffered a serious injury in the first half and now looks set for a spell on the sidelines.

So returned the ghost of Christmas past at this festive season. Lee Wallace came into squad today and was soon in the action. It was just his second appearance under Steven Gerrard, who has preferred Barisic, Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday in the role.

Of course, the reasons for his absence are shrouded in controversy. Rangers fans know all about it so there is little point covering well-trodden ground.

Most of the fanbase feel that the former Rangers captain should be a part of this current squad.

He certainly played well when he came on today. He did nothing of particular note and, understandably, he looks to have lost a little bit of pace.

But he was calm and confident throughout, looking as though he had never been missing from the Rangers fold, for many fans it was great to see him back.

Plenty would now like to see a lot more of them…
