Liverpool picked up a hard-fought but deserved 1-0 win over Brighton in the Premier League yesterday. Mo Salah scored from the penalty spot and Liverpool stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points.
There were several top performances from Liverpool players but perhaps none more so than that of Brazilian international Fabinho.
When Liverpool signed the player from Monaco in the summer they knew they were getting a versatile player. A central midfielder who could also play at full-back, the player looked worth the reported £43.7 million that Liverpool spent on him.
But it seems those were not the only strings to his bow. Fabinho is clearly more than capable at centre-back as well.
With Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez injured, and Joel Matip only just back from a collarbone fracture, the Brazilian was asked to slot in alongside Virgil van Dijk for Liverpool yesterday.
It was a task he took on with aplomb.
The Brazilian put in a great display and his ability on the ball actually gave Liverpool something of a different dimension. Occasionally, he was caught out, but very rarely. When he was, his partner VVD was there to have his back.
The pair looked like they had been playing together for years and Liverpool fans were very pleased with the Brazilian’s efforts…

What a brilliant performance that was by Fabinho yesterday. Didn’t look nervous at CB and was very confident on the ball. Lot of credit will go to VVD too for covering him at times. #LFC

The job Fabinho did yesterday… I doubt if Lovren would get back to this team..!! Fabinho is a better CB than Lovren…

Fabinho now looks a classy centre half alongside van Dijk, to go with his obvious ability to pass the ball through congestion from the holding midfield role. Oh, and he plays right back for Brazil. Suddenly £40m doesn’t look so much. #LFC #versatile
