‘Most certainly’: Simon Jordan claims one Arsenal man needs to be punished after what happened vs Newcastle

Mikel Arteta has once again got himself in the headlines this weekend and Simon Jordan has slammed the Arsenal boss for his behaviour.

Arteta was furious after seeing Arsenal lose to Newcastle and called officials a ‘disgrace’. Since then, he has been backed by the club, with the Gunners putting out a bizarre statement to back their man.

However, speaking on TalkSPORT just now, Simon Jordan has slammed Arteta and believes the Arsenal manager now needs to face some punishment.

Simon Jordan calls for Mikel Arteta to be punished for VAR rant

Speaking about the topic of Arteta and his rant on referees, Jordan had the following to say.

“Do I think to myself if I was Arsenal would I double down on him, given how they’ve given him license to operate? He operates a very high level of emotion. Look at the way (he manages games) – I went to the Manchester City game at The Emirates – and he creates that level of intensity. So I look at him and I’m not surprised by that outburst,” Jordan said.

“Do I think there should be a consequence? Do I think he should be put in his place? I most certainly do. There needs to be some retribution for the observations that he’s making. Behind all this, and I maintain it, and it’s not some conspiracy theory, is because officials are trying to stamp some authority on the game. If players stopped diving, then you wouldn’t have referees being put to decisions like this.”

Arteta is out of order

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Mikel Arteta completely lose it and to be honest, it’s getting to the point where it’s a bit embarrassing.

Jordan is bang on here. We can’t just have managers slating the refs to the extent Arteta has here. The example it sets is quite absurd and it will filter down into the game at grassroots before long.

Yes, referees get things wrong at times but so does everyone else.

Something needs to be done at the moment, otherwise it’s going to get out of control. Arteta, for his part in it, needs some sort of ban or punishment as Jordan says.
