Moritz Bauer has told Celtic’s official website that he has chosen to join the Scottish champions because he wants to experience the pressure of being the club that are expected to finish at the top of the pile.
The 27-year-old has joined Celtic on a season-long loan deal that includes an option to buy – finally ending Celtic’s need for another right-back following the signing of Hatem Abd Elhamed.
Bauer has plenty of pedigree after spells with Grasshopper in Switzerland and Rubin Kazan in Russia, before joining Stoke in January 2018 for £4million (Telegraph). However, he has managed jst 26 appearances in all competitions since his move.
Now, Bauer has added a fourth county to his CV – this time in the form of Scotland with Celtic, and the flying right-back has told the club’s website that he chose to join Neil Lennon’s side because of the pressure that comes with finishing first.

“I’m really, really looking forward to it. I know about the stadium, the historical Celtic Park, and I hope that I can win trophies here and have a very successful season,” Bauer said.
“It’s a massive club with a big history and when you see the stadium from the outside and the players there who have already worn the jersey – they are big names.”
“I love being here and having the target of being first as I like that pressure. There are players here who have already won titles, and it’s a big opportunity for me to learn from them and grow as a player as I hope to be part of a successful team.”
TBR’s view – Don’t let Stoke failure fool you, Bauer is a superb signing
His early outings for Stoke proved that. Bauer was thrown straight into the Stoke starting line-up after completing a move to the Britannia, and was the pick of the players in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.
Able to play at centre-back, Bauer is strong, successful in the air but also very quick and technically gifted. He is a threat from set-pieces but equally adept at whipping the ball into the box. He is an excellent signing for the Hoops.
