Young English Everton prospects Tom Davies, Jonjoe Kenny and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all started last night’s 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.
On a night where Marco Silva needed his side to show some fight and purpose amid growing questions over his suitability to lead Everton into a new era, he trusted three academy products.
And Davies skippered the side as well as being Everton’s best player, while Kenny and Calvert-Lewin play in two positions that have been a problem for Silva this season – right-back and striker.
They are not the only young talents on the books at Goodison – Ademola Lookman is another, while loanees Mason Holgate, Kieran Dowell and Matthew Pennington are all hot prospects who should form part of the future at the club too.

It is for those young guns at the club now to add some life into a closing period of the season that could easily drift.
Silva needs to create optimism ahead of the new season, as well as show some evidence that he is the man to lead Everton into a new long-term period of stability and ultimately, success.
And one of the quickest ways to create some goodwill and optimism from the fans is giving young players regular gametime because the supporters love seeing some of their own showing pride and passion in the shirt.
