‘More energy than Henderson’: Liverpool reportedly want to sign player who’s truly ‘outstanding’

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing the “outstanding” Jude Bellingham this summer.

According to Eurosport, the Anfield club has been monitoring the England prodigy.

Bellingham is just 17 but is already a regular starter in Borussia Dortmund’s first team.

He has made 46 appearances for his club in all competitions this season.

Bellingham has also won four caps for England and is in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad.

He started against Austria in last week’s pre-tournament friendly at Wembley.

At 17 years and 338 days, he became the youngest player to start for England since Wayne Rooney in 2003.

In his weekly Daily Star column, Paul Merson spoke highly about Bellingham whilst criticising Jordan Henderson.

The Liverpool captain opted to take a penalty ahead of Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the friendly against Romania.

He missed, and in the post-match interview, he didn’t seem too fussed about failing to put away his spot kick.

“Jordan Henderson was selfish leading up to the Euros and has slipped behind Jude Bellingham in the England pecking order,” began Merson.

The Arsenal legend went on to say: “I think sooner or later this kid will play in the tournament – and he will be a star.”

“Never seen anything like it”

“I think he’s outstanding. And against the best teams in the tournament we’re going to need more insurance in front of our defence.

“Bellingham gives you that. He has more energy than Henderson. More legs.

“And he’s so composed and confident you’d think he’d played 500 games already.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in a kid of his age. I’m a massive fan of his. I’m so impressed.

“Against the best teams in the finals, we won’t get away with playing Declan Rice and Mason Mount in midfield.

“Or Rice and Henderson. We’ll get overrun.

“But stick Bellingham in there and he solves that problem. He’s a real all-rounder, and he’s ready.

“He’s proved that in the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund.”

Liverpool would be landing a future superstar – TBR View

Regularly starting for one of the top teams in a big-five league and making a national squad for a major tournament are signs of class.

But when you achieve those things before you’re even 18, those are signs of a superstar in the making.

Liverpool could do with a top midfield replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, and Bellingham is a really good shout.
