West Ham United look set to miss out on Salomon Rondon. He is reportedly closing in on a reunion with Rafa Benitez.
West Ham had seemingly made Rondon a major target to replace Marko Arnautovic this summer. The Austrian is heading to China to join Shanghai SIPG, the Daily Express reporting he has undergone a medical ahead of a £22.4 million move.
Once again, it seems China’s millions have scuppered West Ham’s plans.
The Times is reporting that former Newcastle United boss Benitez is set to bring the Venezuelan to China. The Spaniard had the West Brom striker on loan last season and the 29-year-old showed good form at St James’ Park.
Now he is set to bring the frontman to his new club Dalian Yifang in a £16 million move.
Manuel Pellegrini was also seemingly keen on a reunion for the player. The pair worked together at Malaga.
According to The Mirror, West Ham were readying a £12 million offer for the player.
Now it seems the millions available in Chinese football have again left West Ham out in the cold.
West Ham must now up their hunt for a new striker with just Javier Hernandez and Jordan Hugill set to be left and both players considered dispensable by Pellegrini.
