‘Monchi told me’: Intermediary has told Sky Sports what Newcastle must do to sign Diego Carlos

Newcastle United must “throw the kitchen sink” to sign Diego Carlos, according to football intermediary Kenneth Asquez.

The Magpies have reportedly been in talks over the Sevilla defender over the past few weeks.

However, it’s proven a real rollercoaster of a saga that could leave Newcastle empty-handed.

On Tuesday evening, Sky Sports reported that the Magpies are now looking elsewhere.

This is after the Newcastle hierarchy apparently grew ‘increasingly frustrated by Sevilla’.

In addition, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has commented on the situation on Twitter.

“Sevilla considers the negotiations with #NUFC have broken down about Diego Carlos. It’s over, they say,” he wrote.

Sky Sports claimed the Magpies would have to offer Sevilla €45m (£37.6m) for the centre-back.

However, Newcastle are reportedly refusing to pay more than about €30m (£25.1m) at present.

On Wednesday afternoon, Asquez spoke to Sky Sports about the situation.

He reiterated that, unless Newcastle are willing to spend big, they won’t succeed in signing the Brazilian.

“It has never been their intention to sell Diego Carlos unless an out-of-market offer comes in,” he said (26/1/22, 14:20).

“The challenge with Real Madrid for the league doesn’t come around very often.

“And so they don’t want to weaken their team by selling their most consistent defender this season.

“Monchi doesn’t want to sell him and the player hasn’t made any noises either.

“Carlos’ family is fully settled here since arriving from Nantes three years ago.

“If Monchi was to sell both Carlos and Jules Kounde this summer, easily they have got a market value of €50m.

“They’re worth it. Carlos for me, along with Eder Militao at Real Madrid, has been the best defender in the league this season.

“The way it can impact a team, a central defender comes at a premium nowadays.

“Monchi told me that Newcastle are going to have to throw the kitchen sink at this, otherwise it’s not going to happen.”
