Sevilla director of football Monchi has claimed a Premier League club had an interest in old West Ham United target Youssef En-Nesyri.
What’s the story?
The Hammers were in for the striker earlier in the summer, with reports claiming the club would bid for the ace.
However, it later emerged the £35m-rated African centre-forward had rejected a move to the London Stadium.
And Monchi seems to have confirmed reports the player rejected the Hammers in his latest interview with Diario de Sevilla.
The director said there was ‘great interest’ from an English top-flight club, but En-Nesyri was ‘very comfortable’ and didn’t want to leave Spain.
When talking about interest in the 24-year-old, Monchi said: “There have been fewer movements, but it is true that there was a great interest from an English club in one of our players and the player himself said that he had no interest in leaving here, because he is very comfortable.”

West Ham so close to landing a fantastic striker
The club were most likely the club interested in the ace given all the links earlier in the window. And it seems West Ham were incredibly close to landing a great player in En-Nesyri amid those comments from Monchi.
The player has been in great form during his time in Seville. He has scored 30 times in just 78 games over the last two seasons. His performances directly helped them lift the Europa League two seasons ago.
In terms of attacking talents needed to improve West Ham’s squad, he was a crucial target.
Michail Antonio was the only out-and-out number nine for the East Londoners after Sebastien Haller left the club.
En-Nesyri would have been a considerable upgrade on the 29-year-old. However, David Moyes will now need to search elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.
