Leeds United are closing in on a  £3 million deal for Barry Douglas. The left-back is expected to undergo a medical at Thorp Arch today ahead of a move, according to Sky Sports.

It would be a fantastic move for Leeds, considering how important the Scotland international was in Wolves’ title run last season.

Douglas provided an exceptional 14 assists from his left wing-back role and also managed three goals. Such statistics are certainly eye-catching and have Leeds fans rightly excited.

But Leeds already knew about his ability as they saw it first hand when the two sides went face-to-face in November.

Wolves romped to victory in that game, putting Leeds to the sword in a 4-1 sweep. Douglas was instrumental, as he scored the first goal. He hit an unstoppable free-kick from 25 yards out that left Andy Lonergan sprawling against his former club.

He performed brilliantly in that game. His advanced position had Leeds on the back-foot throughout and was a key factor in Wolves’ third goal.

He wasn’t bad in their second meeting either. His set-pieces caused havoc for Leeds in the March meeting. Douglas bagged an assist for Roman Saiss’ opener in a 3-0 Elland Road win.

The way he played is exactly what Marcelo Bielsa will want from a left-back this season, as evident from pre-season in the way he has transformed Luke Ayling.

The Argentine said he watched every single one of Leeds’ games from last season. You have to wonder if Douglas caught his eye in this one.
