Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has praised Liverpool counterpart Virgil van Dijk, deeming the Reds ace “one of the very best” centre-backs in the world.
The Saints are in Premier League action against Jurgen Klopp’s charges at Anfield on Saturday.
Van Dijk shone at Southampton after joining them for £13million from Celtic, before his subsequent £75million switch to Liverpool.

The Dutchman spent most of last season on the sidelines due to a long-term injury and Liverpool missed him terribly.
This term, however, he’s back to fitness and performing superbly, with 15 Reds appearances under his belt in 2021-22.
Meanwhile, Salisu has been one of Southampton’s key players this season, standing out as one of their top performers.
The 22-year-old joined the Saints for £10.9million in August 2020 and, after making just 15 appearances last term, is already on 14 this season.

Ahead of Liverpool hosting Southampton this weekend, Salisu admits he’s a huge fan of Van Dijk, hoping he can become as good as him over the course of his career.
“I think Virgil is a very good central defender and, I would say, is one of the very best central defenders in the world,” the Daily Echo quotes the Ghanaian as saying.
“One day, I want to be like him, especially with how he plays and the confidence he has and how he leads the team.”
