Reported Everton and Southampton transfer target Mohamed Simakan has made his transfer plans for the summer clear and it appears he has no interest in leaving current club Strasbourg.
It was recently reported by RMC Sport that Everton are keen on a potential move for the talented Frenchman, along with Southampton and a host of European rivals. Tottenham are also said to be keen.
A €15 million (£13m) transfer fee was suggested, a figure potentially in the price range for both clubs.
However, the player himself has now made it clear he wants to stay where he is for the time being.
Speaking to Telefoot, the 20-year-old confirmed his plans to remain in Alsace for the foreseeable future.
“Today, I couldn’t talk about it anymore because I haven’t heard anything, seen nothing, so these are a bit of rumors.
“For now, I prefer to focus on Strasbourg because today I am here and I find that everything is fine here and we will have to continue like this. The priority is to stay in Strasbourg.”
The young defender has been in fine form this season and both Everton and Southampton are right to be showing an interest in his potential signature.
Capable both at centre-back and right-back, he would be an affordable young option with the potential to grow into a top Premier League defender.
With Everton and Southampton both facing uphill battles in the race for main defensive transfer targets, Lille’s Gabriel and Stade de Reims’ Axel Disasi respectively, this fellow Ligue 1 talent looked a potentially perfect fall-back option.
But Simakan looks set to be sticking around.
