One area of the Tottenham Hotspur team that may soon need improving is at centre-back. Long-term doubts remain over the futures of Belgian pair Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. Whilst there is a degree of faith in the talents of both Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez, another arrival will no doubt soon be forthcoming.
As reported by The Sun in October, Dutch international Nathan Ake is one player being considered by the North London club.
The report claims that Tottenham had made Ake their number one defensive target. Bournemouth were likely to demand £40 million for the former Chelsea youngster, who has been in impressive form.

Some Tottenham fans might have found the link underwhelming. As talented as Ake is, better options probably exist for £40 million.
This weekend highlighted that fact.
Ake went up against Liverpool and Mohamed Salah on Saturday and did not come out the other end unscathed. He was unfortunate with his first goal, which should have been ruled out for offside. He was then caught too far away from his former Chelsea team-mate for Salah’s second. Whilst he did not score an own goal like his partner Steve Cook, he was then made to look silly on the line as Salah cooly finished his hat-trick.
Of course, being given the runaround by Salah comes with little shame. Many have fallen to the same fate. However, Tottenham need defenders that can keep such players at bay if they are to carry on pushing forward with their success. This weekend may have suggested that £40 million is too much for the Dutchman.
