Mohamed Salah just proved Arne Slot is using him completely wrong with record-breaking Egypt display

Mohamed Salah produced arguably his worst performance to date in a Liverpool shirt during the 2-1 loss against Chelsea.

Paul Scholes accused Salah of making the wrong decisions too often this season, and that was certainly the case at Stamford Bridge.

The Egyptian often opted for his trademark curling effort from outside of the opposition box, despite being supported with far better options for the pass, yet every time he sailed his effort high over the crossbar.

Florian Wirtz, who has struggled since arriving at Anfield, was denied a golden opportunity to earn his first goal contribution in the Premier League, with an audacious flick into Salah’s path, but his teammate couldn’t find the target.

With three consecutive losses across all competitions heading into the international break, the concerns are starting to build at Anfield.

However, Salah has just single-handedly secured Egypt’s qualification for the World Cup in a new-look role, which could be the solution to all Liverpool’s problems.

Arne Slot should utilise Mohamed Salah centrally for Liverpool

Salah became the all-time African World Cup qualifier top scorer following his brace in the 3-0 win against Djibouti on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old operated in the number 10 role alongside former Aston Villa man Trezeguet, with Zizo occupying the right flank.

Salah has been dubbed “lazy” for his defensive contributions this season, as the space between the forward and his right-back has been targeted by the opposition in recent weeks.

Arne Slot has consistently changed his squad thus far, but with Wirtz still finding his feet in English football and Dominik Szoboszlai performing best at right-back, moving Salah more centrally makes perfect sense.

And should he move into a central role, he will be in the perfect position to do so. Salah thrives when playing one-two passes and has found himself isolated on the right flank far too often.

A lot of speculation has occurred since the start of the season surrounding Salah’s dramatic dip in form, and while he has recorded three goals and three assists in nine outings, it is imperative that he returns to his usual scintillating self.

New Mohamed Salah role could unlock Federico Chiesa

Federico Chiesa has arguably been the Reds’ most in-form forward this season despite being snubbed in their last two outings.

The Italian was excluded from the matchday squad for the 1-0 loss against Galatasaray and was left on the bench at Stamford Bridge despite Liverpool chasing a match-winner.

After assisting both Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike in the Carabao Cup, Chiesa added to his goal on the opening day with an equaliser against Crystal Palace before Eddie Nketiah’s 95th-minute winner.

Liverpool boast a plethora of options on the left flank, but Chiesa is the only natural right winger outside of Salah. Should Slot experiment with his star talisman in the number 10 role, Chiesa could finally get his opportunity to shine – it is long overdue.
