Mohamed Elyounoussi focusing on Celtic present not future

Celtic loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi has been discussing his start to life in Glasgow, and is clearly not thinking about a long-term transfer to Parkhead just yet.

The Southampton-owned star is on loan at Celtic until the end of the season. The deal came just one year after the Saints spent a reported (Telegraph) £16 million on the Norwegian international who had been in tremendous form for Swiss side FC Basel.

Elyounoussi has gone on to score seven goals and provide five assists for Celtic in 10 games for the club.

That sort of form has undoubtedly got Celtic fans hoping for a permanent stay. However, as reported by the Daily Record, the Norwegian international is currently just hoping to enjoy his current form and bring silverware to Celtic.

“I haven’t thought about what is going to happen in the future. All I think about is what is going to happen in the next training session and then the next game. I never look too far ahead.

“When the season is finished I will sit down and look at all of my options, but right now I am just happy to be here and playing for Celtic.

“I think I need to focus on the here and now and not the future or the past.”

Elyounoussi’s stunning form for Celtic should come as no surprise considering his previous performances in Switzerland, a similar standard to Scottish football.

Hopefully, he can keep up that level of performance and guide Celtic to the league title and more this season.

Then, considering the big fee Southampton paid for him, Celtic may have a job on their hands securing his permanent transfer.
