Mohamed Elneny still being kept out of Arsenal training by knee injury
Elneny was absent from the squad which beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 on Sunday. Football London notes that he sustained the issue in training. And he continues to be assessed ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United this coming weekend.
The report does not suggest whether he is likely to be ready in time for the clash at the Emirates. But the signs do not appear to be too positive.
Elneny yet to return to Arsenal training after sustaining injury
According to the report from Football London, Elneny is yet to feature in training this week. In the meantime, Mikel Arteta has called up a cluster of players from the under-21 squad, including Matt Smith and Ben Cottrell.
It would be a big boost to Arsenal if Elneny is ready in time to make the squad to take on Erik ten Hag’s side. Obviously, he is not one of the first names on the team sheet. But he is clearly such an important member of Arteta’s squad.
Arteta himself, has labelled him ‘amazing‘ in the past. And given how important the upcoming game appears to be, it could provide a real lift if he is involved against United.
Arsenal’s midfield has been a revelation this season, with Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard forming an incredible unit. But it is also fair to say that depth is not a strength for the Gunners.
Elneny provides that depth. And he rarely lets the team down when he gets the chance. Every team in the Premier League would benefit from having an Elneny in their ranks.
And who can forget one of Elneny’s best ever performances for the club – which came against Manchester United in one of the high points of Arteta’s tenure before this season.
