Speaking to the PFA’s official Twitter account, the former Arsenal man admitted that he has grown a respect for Tottenham legend Jermain Defoe, who is also doing his coaching badges.

Elneny said when asked what it’s like learning alongside former professionals: “It’s great, it creates a great atmosphere and it’s a great thing to have around you. Look at Jermain Defoe, he’s a legend, but he can talk about the striker position and how to run behind, how to hold the ball up, how to get into the box, it’s really good.”

Having left Tottenham’s academy set-up as a coach this summer, it’s clear that Defoe is looking to forge a career for himself on the touchline, with the former England international working towards his badges alongside Elneny.

And based on what the former Arsenal man has said about Defoe and the knowledge the Tottenham legend brings, there’s a good chance that the former Rangers and Sunderland star could become part of the next generation of England coaches.

Defoe could become one of the next best young coaches in England

And Defoe could easily join this next generation once his has completed his coaching courses and if he takes the right first job when he makes his move into the hot seat for a professional team.

Indeed, Defoe has the knowledge and the ambition to become an exciting young manager in the English game, and many Tottenham fans will be excited to see how their former striker does out on his own in coaching.
