Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny has insisted he hopes the club move to sign Martin Odegaard on a permanent basis, after the Norwegian’s impressive start.

Odegaard has quickly established himself as a key player for the Gunners in recent weeks. He is expected to be back in the starting XI for this weekend’s game with West Ham, after being on the bench against Olympiakos.

It is yet to be seen if Odegaard will move permanently from Real Madrid. But Elneny, who was speaking to Norwegian outlet AGTV, says he ‘wishes’ for the attacking midfielder to stay.

“You always see him coaching players, outside of the dressing room as well. He talks all the time about the game and what we are going to do. He has the personality to be a captain,” Elneny said.

When pressured further on Odegaard and asked if he’d like to see him at The Emirates permanently, Elneny replied promptly with ‘we wish, we wish, we wish’.

Odegaard has brought a freshness to the Arsenal attack in recent times. His calmness in possession and ability to spot a pass has supplemented the talents and runs of the likes of Smith-Rowe and Saka.

If Arsenal can get a deal over the line for Odegaard then is has to be something the club put at the top of their list.

He’s settled in so well and looks every bit the typical Arsenal player. Technically gifted, good with the ball, and with an eye for goal, Odegaard is proving to be everything Mikel Arteta hoped he’d be.

Gunners fans, like Elneny, will surely be hoping to see him a permanent player by the start of next season.
