Leeds United earned three points in the race for promotion from the Championship with a late 3-2 win over bitter rivals Millwall – and Marco Silvestri and Mirco Antenucci have sent messages to Gaetano Berardi in reaction.
The 30-year-old defender remained an unused substitute as Leeds came from behind twice to beat Neil Harris’ side. Luke Ayling scored a header and Pablo Hernandez notched a brace – including a last-gasp winner.
With the score at 1-0, Patrick Bamford missed a penalty but Hernandez got on the end of an Ayling cut-back to equalise. Ayling then scored himself, after Millwall had gone 2-1 ahead from the penalty spot.
The defender’s header made it 2-2, before Tyler Roberts’ low cross was turned in by Hernandez. Berardi posted a picture of himself on Instagram, celebrating on the subs bench as Hernandez scored a third.
Berardi, a one-time Switzerland international, has only managed nine appearances for Leeds this season with knee and hamstring injuries ruling him out for much of the campaign.
He returned in February and played seven minutes of the win against Bristol City. Former Leeds stars Antenucci and Silvestri reacted to his Instagram, with Silvestri describing Berardi as “the best”.

TBR’s view
Despite not even being given a minute’s run out, Berardi’s passionate celebration shows the Leeds players mirror the kind of desire and commitment that fans show every Saturday.
The players want to gain promotion and end the 15-year wait outside the Premier League. They want it just as much as fans do, so Berardi’s picture was pleasing to see for Leeds fans.
Having the former Sampdoria star fit will be crucial going into the remaining seven league games.
