Mino Raiola has told Greek outlet SDNA that there is a possibility that Leeds United outcast Vurnon Anita could join Greek side Panathinaikos, after first being linked with the Whites earlier this month.

Anita, 30, has struggled since joining Leeds in the summer of 2017. In his first season at Elland Road, the three-time Netherlands international clocked up just 22 appearances for the Whites. He went on loan to Willem II last term.

He slightly improved in the Eredivisie, clocking up 33 league and cup appearances. But with just one year left on his contract at Elland Road, his chances of working his way back into Marcelo Bielsa’s side remains unlikely.

Leeds will want him off the wage bill, and SDNA has previously claimed that Panathinaikos are interested with Leeds willing to let him go on a free. Now, agent Raiola has confirmed that Anita could join the Greek side.

“Yes, there’s a possibility for Panathinaikos to sign Vurnon Anita. We’ll see what happens,” super agent Raiola said.

TBR’s view – Anita must leave Leeds, a move suited to all parties

Anita has flopped at Leeds and is likely to be a on a pricey contract, after joining Leeds from Newcastle – of whom he first joined when The Toon were in the Premier League from Ajax.

For the good of Leeds’ wage bill, and Anita’s career, the Dutchman needs to leave Elland Road and offloading him on a free transfer is worth doing – just to get his pay cheque off the wage bill.
