Millwall captain Alex Pearce has been discussing the controversial penalty award in the recent meeting with Leeds United.

Leeds United lost 2-1 at the New Den courtesy of a Jed Wallace penalty and Tom Bradshaw finish. Bradshaw had early gone down under a challenge by Gaetano Berardi for the penalty which also saw the Swiss defender sent off.

Despite Gjanni Alioski scoring in the second half Leeds could not fight back and claim a point in London.

The refereeing decision against Leeds seemed harsh with minimal contact made with Bradshaw. Indeed, the decision has been overturned since after Leeds United appealed.

Republic of Ireland international Pearce admitted that Millwall might have been lucky with the decision in conversation with News At Den. However, he also suggested they had earned that luck with the effort of their performance.

“It’s swings and roundabouts, some weeks you get them and some weeks you don’t. Over the course of a season, it all balances itself out…

“There have been certain times when we’ve been harshly done by this season and possibly times when we’ve been lucky. Saturday, you could possibly argue that, but I think we earned that luck from the way that we were playing in that first half.”

TBR’s View

Plenty of fans will be well-versed with the cliche of it all balancing out by the end of the season.

Leeds United fans, however, tend to think that is not the case with them.

It does sometimes appear that Leeds do not get the best of it when it comes to officiating mistakes and FA decision making.

The only positive Leeds can take from this instance is just how well the team performed with ten men and the fact Berardi will not be suspended for the clash with Birmingham City after the international break.
