Newcastle United claimed their first victory of the season on Saturday and moved out of the relegation zone.
Ayoze Perez scored the only goal of the game as Newcastle beat Watford 1-0 at St James’ Park.
And it was three substitutions which turned the game around for the Magpies.
Fabian Schar was introduced at half-time and he produced a special display at the back to keep Watford quiet.
And then the other two subs combined to score the winner. Ki Sung-yeung provided the ball into the box and Perez netted with a header.
It was only Ki’s fourth appearance of the season in the Premier League since his summer move from Swansea.
But the South Korea international was highly impressive and staked a claim for a regular spot.
Replacing Jonjo Shelvey, who took a knock, Ki controlled the game with some excellent passing and intent to move the ball forwards.
His dead-ball deliveries were also tricky for Watford to deal with and that proved decisive in the end.
Newcastle fans were very impressed by the 29-year-old. Here is what they said about Ki’s performance on Saturday.
Things I've learnt today…
Ki is a million times better than Diamè (however Diamè improved when Ki came on)
Schar and Fernandez look class together.
Perez has made me eat my words…again!!!
Class result. #NUFC

Shelvey and Ki should be our midfield partnership. #nufc

Would love to see more of Ki and Schar, they were both excellent when they came on. Imagine a midfied with Ki and Shelvey. #NUFC

Honestly how good was Ki when he came on. Directed the game his short passing game, that set piece was unreal. When Jonjo is fit again, it has to be Ki and Jonjo in middle for me, how about you ? #NUFC

Ki, with a 10% better pass rate than Shelvey this season, made the difference yesterday for #nufc , albeit they could have been behind before that. No Hollywood balls, just simple effective forward passing.

Ki impressed me yesterday, looked comfortable in possession when under pressure and dictated our play. I don't get why people are saying he isn't mobile when we have shelvey in there, who looks like he's towing a caravan most games #nufc
