Mikel Arteta's management of one Arsenal player was 'great' vs Tottenham, says Micah Richards
Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-0 on their own patch, doing an exceptionally professional job and showing their superiority.
The game threatened to boil over right at the end after an incident involving Aaron Ramsdale and a fan just before the full-time whistle.
Xhaka looked to get involved but Arteta was swift to get involved and haul the midfielder away from a potential flashpoint.
Richards praises Arteta for Xhaka treatment
Speaking on the BBC’s Monday Night Club, Richards said: “Even the clip with Xhaka afterwards, going to get himself involved, straight way he [Arteta] is getting in the way.
“We’ve come to Spurs, we’ve got the result, let’s go home happy, we don’t need to get involved in any of that sort of stuff.
“I just thought that was great management.
“It’s only details, people might be saying you’re looking too much into it, but when everything is going right it’s the small details that could potentially get them over the line at the end.”
Arsenal had the perfect afternoon at the home of their biggest rivals, and they had no need to pick up any negatives despite the provocation at full-time.
Xhaka will always stick up for his teammates and there is a clear unity and spirit among the group right now and that is part of the reason they are eight points clear at the top of the table.
Next up for the Gunners is another huge game against a resurgent Manchester United, and if they get a win there, their title charge will again get another boost.
