Mikel Arteta thinks he can make Mykhaylo Mudryk 'more versatile' if he joins Arsenal - journalist

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Mykhaylo Mudryk over the last few months, and it looks like Mikel Arteta already has a plan for him.

The Gunners have suffered a huge blow after it was confirmed that Gabriel Jesus has picked up a knee injury. The Brazilian is ruled out for the remainder of the World Cup, and he’s now awaiting further results to learn about the true extent of his injury.

If Jesus is sidelined for a considerable period of time, Arsenal will have to dive into the transfer market to replace him. Could a winger like Mudryk fill in for Arsenal’s number nine?

Mudryk, branded as ‘unstoppable’, has been a star for Shakhtar over the last year. He’s incredibly quick, is a good dribbler and as he has shown already, he can score goals and provide assists regularly.

The Ukrainian, apart from just one appearance on the right, has only played on the left wing this season. That clearly is his best position, but Ben Jacobs has revealed that Arteta thinks he can make him versatile enough to play more centrally as well.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Arteta feels that he can be developed into a more versatile player.

“At the moment he’s lightning quick, he’s got a good eye for goal, he weighs in with assists, he makes the pitch as big as possible, he starts on the left-hand side and he cuts in. I think Mikel Arteta thinks he can spend more time during games in central areas and, even under select game management situations, switch sides as well.

“As he adds those strings to his bow, he could live up to his reputation as one of the best players in that position. So, it’s one to watch from Arsenal’s point of view.”

One of the biggest reasons why Arsenal have been so good this season is their front three.

Gabriel Martinelli, Jesus and Bukayo Saka interchange positions on numerous occasions in games, and that makes it extremely difficult for opposition defenders to defend against them.

At the moment, we can’t see how Mudryk would fare In Jesus’ position, but if Arteta believes he can do well in a central role, Arsenal fans should trust him.

The January transfer window is just a few weeks away now, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal can go and sign Mudryk.
