Mikel Arteta shares he’s ‘really happy’ with Arsenal player after weekend

Mikel Arteta has lauded Joe Willock and suggested that he is really happy with the Arsenal loanee following his latest display for Newcastle United – in comments reported by Football London.

Willock continues to make an impact while away from the Emirates. The 21-year-old scored his second in two appearances and third overall on Saturday as Newcastle beat West Ham.

They have been crucial goals for the Magpies. His equaliser against Spurs certainly caught the eye of fans of his parent club. And his winner against the Hammers helped Steve Bruce’s side take a giant step towards safety.

Unsurprisingly, Steve Bruce is keen to keep Willock beyond this season (via Daily Mirror).

Arteta was asked about the youngster following Arsenal’s draw. And judging by his response, it would appear that the Arsenal boss is not looking to cash in this summer.

“Yeah, I’m really happy with Joe because he scored a massive goal for the club. So, when he produces big moments like that it’s very satisfying,” he said, as reported by Football London.

“Joe can do it he’s got the ability and the desire and now he’s having more consistency in terms of minutes and performances and that’s great for his development.

“That’s why we all believed it was the right thing for him to go on loan.”

It does appear that Willock is showing exactly what Arteta would have wanted to see. He is proving once again that he is more than good enough to impress at the highest level.

And even if his long-term future does not lie at the Emirates, Arsenal are surely set to benefit from Willock’s form.

His asking price has surely increased since the January window. So if they do decide to sell, Willock may hand a boost to Arteta’s transfer kitty ahead of this summer.
