Mikel Arteta seen hugging £52m player he reportedly wants Arsenal to sign

Mikel Arteta was spotted hugging Arsenal target Ismael Bennacer following yesterday’s friendly between the Gunners and AC Milan. The head coach is keen to bring the midfielder back to the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.

Bennacer left Arsenal in 2017. He made just one first-team appearance for the Gunners and was sold to Empoli. Two seasons later, they lived to regret that decision when he signed for Serie A giants AC Milan.

Now, a return could be on the cards for Bennacer. He has 18 months to run on his current contract at the San Siro and the Milanese outfit could be willing to sell their midfielder if the price is right.

Re-signing the 25-year-old won’t come easily. It was claimed in November that Chelsea were keen to sign the Algerian international and that it could take £52 million to prise him away from Milan.

The defence-minded Bennacer has become integral to Milan. He has made 126 appearances during his time at the club and he’s also claimed 40 caps for the Algeria national team.

Bennacer may feel as though he has some unfinished business at the Emirates. He departed having made just one appearance for the Gunners and as a result, he’d perhaps jump at a return.

The Gunners defeated Milan yesterday in Dubai. The victory saw the gunners win the Dubai Super Cup after a 2-1 win and then a 4-3 win on penalties, giving them an additional bonus point.

After the clash, some eagle-eyed supporters on social media spotted Arteta enjoying a warm embrace with Bennacer at the side of the pitch.

Naturally, it’s sparked some speculation. It’s intriguing what they might have been talking about and some will hope that the topic of discussion was a possible transfer.

Bennacer could prove to be a useful signing. Now, it will be interesting to see if the Gunners follow through with their interest and make a concrete bid.
