Arsenal finished their pre-season preparations over the weekend against Lyon.

The Gunners beat the French side 2-0 to win the Emirates Cup, and this was the last chance for many of Arsenal’s fringe players to impress and make an impression on Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal’s fringe players and youngsters will have been desperately trying to catch the manager’s eye in this game, and, by the sounds of it, one young player has impressed the gaffer.

Indeed, according to Kaya Kaynak, speaking on The Arsenal Way Podcast, Mikel Arteta seemed to take a serious interest in Myles Lewis-Skelly’s performance against Lyon, claiming that the manager was often applauding the teenager during the game.

Mikel Arteta impressed by Myles Lewis-Skelly

Kaynak noted that Arteta was impressed by the youngster.

“Yeah, like you say, a sign of where they will be and we noted Myles Lewis-Skelly is clearly someone Mikel has a lot of investment in,” Kaynak said.

“He was applauding those cross-field switches of play, he was telling him what to do and giving him instructions on the touchline, you don’t do that to a player unless you really care. He seems to have a real investment in Lewis-Skelly.”

What Mikel Arteta has said about Myles Lewis-Skelly

Arteta was impressed by Lewis-Skelly vs Lyon, and this isn’t the first time the youngster has caught the eye during pre-season.

Indeed, Arteta has even gone on the record to praise the youngster earlier this summer, stating that there are certain things he does really well.

“There were a few actions that he did really well, a few he has to understand a bit better – especially the focus and attention these games demand. He really wants it,” said the Arsenal manager.

Lewis-Skelly has recently been converted into a left-back, and the teenager could be in line for a few first-team opportunities with the Gunners this term.
