Mikel Arteta says 22-year-old Arsenal player impressed him in training last week
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has praised Takehiro Tomiyasu after he made his debut against Norwich City at the weekend.
Catching the eye
Tomiyasu had just two days training with Arsenal, but was immediately put into the Gunners’ defence.
Arsenal finally picked up their first win of the season after beating 1-0 with their victory built upon defensive solidarity.
Tomiyasu was definitely a plus point during his time on the pitch, despite not being fit enough to be able to last the whole game.
And Arteta says that the Japanese international impressed from the very moment he stepped into training at London Colney.
“Really good. He looked really confident from day one, he only had two training sessions, but from day one he knows exactly what to do,” Arteta said.
“He was really focused and determined and a big personality to play.
“He had to come off, Cedric comes in, and he did a great job.”
Much needed win
Arsenal desperately need for Tomiyasu’s arrival to work out for them.
Arteta’s side have started the season in poor fashion and even after their win they still sit down in 16th place in the early Premier League table.
But there were encouraging signs at the weekend, as they finally got off the mark.
Arsenal now should have increased confidence and, at least, do have something to build upon now.
Arteta’s men are next in action when they take on Burnley on Saturday, when Tomiyasu looks likely to start again.
