Mikel Arteta has suggested that he would like to pen a new contract with Arsenal, but insisted – in comments reported by Football London – that he needs to earn fresh terms at the Emirates.
Arteta has made an incredibly bright start to life at the Emirates. Arsenal have won the FA Cup during his brief tenure. And they certainly look to be moving in the right direction after some underwhelming times.

It was a busy summer in North London. And one of the changes made centred around Arteta’s job title, with the Spaniard becoming manager after previously been known as the Gunners’ head coach.
Arteta confirmed that he did not receive a new contract when the title changed, and admitted that he did not know if any extension was in the pipeline.
However, he did insist that he would be ready to sign a new deal if he did receive an offer.

“Yes, but I have to earn that,” he said, as reported by Football London, when asked if he would sign a new contract. “Now in football you have to earn it every week and things change really quickly, so we have to be on our toes. Obviously, it’s my responsibility to plan medium and long-term as well, but that’s with or without me.
“At the end, the time that I’m going to be at this football club will be related to how much I can move the club forward, improve the team and be a success on the pitch and get the values and the vision that I want to implement into this club as well off the pitch.”
TBR View: Despite what Arteta says, he’s surely earned fresh terms
It would be difficult to argue with Arsenal’s decision-makers if Arteta was awarded a new deal. Of course, the pressure will increase now that he has some of his own signings through the door.
But there are a number of positives already emerging from his appointment. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has committed his future to the Gunners.
Numerous players such as David Luiz and Granit Xhaka have won many fans over due to the improvement they appear to have made in recent months.
And it will come as little surprise if Arsenal take another step forward this term. Arteta looks to be laying the foundations for something that could potentially be extremely special.
