Mikel Arteta responds when asked if he wants to bring Youri Tielemans to Arsenal

After the 5-3 win over Nurnberg in Germany yesterday, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was directly asked if he wants to sign Youri Tielemans from Leicester City this summer.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Belgian international over the last few months. Fabrizio Romano even revealed this week that the midfielder is expecting Arsenal to come and sign him in this window.

Arsenal really could do with a new top-class central midfielder, and Tielemans checks all the boxes. He is a fantastic player, and he’d fit Arteta’s system perfectly.

The Gunners boss was asked about Tielemans yesterday, but he refused to give away anything.

Arsenal took on FC Nurnberg in Germany yesterday and despite a difficult first half that saw them go 2-0 down, they picked up an impressive 5-3 win.

Arteta was a happy man when he faced the media after the game. He praised his lads for their performance, but when he was directly quizzed about Arsenal’s reported interest in Tielemans, he refused to admit anything.

When asked if Arsenal want to sign Tielemans, Arteta said, as per HaytersTV: “We never talk about players that are not ours.

“As I said before, if we can improve the team still in the market, we are going to try to do it. But, we are not going to go through any specific names.”

TBR View:

Arsenal need a new central midfielder this summer and Tielemans really would be a fantastic signing.

The Belgian is still only 25, has tons of experience under his belt, can play anywhere across central midfield, and knows the Premier League really well.

Arsenal are crying out for a midfielder who can provide creativity from a deeper position. Tielemans as a number eight at the Emirates would solve that issue, and it is no surprise that the Gunners have been so heavily linked with a move to sign him.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out, but if Arsenal really want Tielemans, they should be able to get him in the coming weeks.
