Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested that Takehiro Tomiyasu could be fit for the Gunners as they take on Aston Villa this weekend.

Arteta’s side are looking to bounce back from the defeat against Liverpool in midweek before breaking for the international period. Ideally, the Gunners boss wants to have maximum options available to freshen things up and he has spoken in his presser today about the Villa game.

One man on the agenda for discussion was Tomiyasu. The Japanese star had been exceptional for the Gunners before getting injured. He has missed plenty of action recently, with his initial knock keeping him out longer than expected.

However, Mikel Arteta has spoken on Tomiyasu today and hinted that he could well be back for the Villa game.

“There is a chance, but we don’t know. Let’s see today. He had a recurring injury around the same place. After that you have to be very cautious,” he told the official Arsenal presser.

TBR’s View: Tomiyasu Return A Boost For Arsenal

Arteta might not want to risk his man if there is any doubt at all in his mind. But having Tomiyasu back fit would be a bonus for this one.

Villa have some excellent attacking players and Tomiyasu is the best right back at Arsenal. Him being fit could be key to containing the likes of Coutinho and Watkins. His return to training is a boost in itself, but his return to actual action would be massive for the Gunners.

Lauded as ‘amazing’ by Ben White, having the Japanese ace back would help Arsenal massively.
