Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised defender Rob Holding and could give him another start to improve his fitness against Bournemouth tonight, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Holding, 24, has had his injury problems but Arteta has made it clear he’s a fan of the Englishman and wants to do all he can to get him back into contention to start regularly.
He said of Holding: “He is a very interesting player, very focused, very determined and very willing to learn. Obviously the fact he has been out for such a long time, he is lacking competition now and lacking that rhythm. We need to try to give him as much as possible to help him.
“There were some moments that he looked really, really good. He is a player that is going to be very valuable for us.”
TBR’s View – Holding should be central to Arsenal’s defensive future
Holding was starting to show signs last season that he could be the kind of central defender Arsenal have needed for years, before he went down with injury.
He hasn’t been able to get up to full speed just yet but he should be part of Arteta’s defensive unit moving forward.
Holding is the right age, keen to improve and more reliable and calm than Sokratis, David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi, who have experience on their side but also have a mistake in them.
