Mikel Arteta needs to do everything in his power to sign £25m star, he wants to leave his club

Whilst Mikel Arteta has overseen a ton of squad building at Arsenal in the past few seasons, this summer will be about adding a star or two.

Arteta now has an excellent foundation for success, as his squad are currently demonstrating with five straight league wins.

Kai Havertz is coming good, Leandro Trossard is thriving with more responsibility, and Bukayo Saka continues to prove he’s one of the world’s best. 

However, Arsenal’s squad can still be improved, and with a few players expected to depart this summer, players will need to be added.

Perhaps Thomas Partey’s expected departure will be the most significant, a player who has been world-class when fit – which is admittedly now rare.

But if Partey does leave, Arteta will need to add a number six of similar ability, a player who can take performances one step further.

And given the news that Joshua Kimmich now wants to leave Bayern Munich, as reported by BILD, Arsenal should be on red alert.

Jorginho has not only proved how necessary a progressive passer is in Arsenal’s midfield, but his positioning has also shown how versatile Declan Rice can be.

Arsenal now have a position crying out for a player of Kimmich’s ability, a player who’s one of the best midfielders of his generation.

And given Kimmich is thought to be available for around £25m this summer, that does represent good value for a 29-year-old at the top of his game.

Kimmich wouldn’t necessarily be a short-term signing either, he’s a player who still has some excellent years ahead.

And when you consider that the German is also one of the world’s best at inverting as right-back, a deal really does seem a no-brainer.

Mikel Arteta’s project deserves a star like Kimmich, and Arsenal need to do everything in their power to chase a deal.

Of course, if a move for Kimmich doesn’t prove possible, then Arsenal could have a similar situation emerging at Barcelona.

Frenkie de Jong is another world-class midfielder who would enhance Arsenal’s midfield, and his contract situation is now uncertain.

Either De Jong or Kimmich could help Arsenal win titles, they have the star quality.

And given Arsenal now appear willing to sell an ‘outstanding’ young midfielder this summer, the opportunity could be there.
