Mikel Arteta may still need to convince Arsenal chiefs about Riccardo Calafiori deal
According to a recent report from The Athletic, Arteta may still need to convince Arsenal’s hierarchy that a deal for Riccardo Calafiori is good business.
After impressing at Euro 2024 with Italy, The Gunners have accelerated a deal to sign the 22-year-old defender and are now close to completing the signing.
However, a deal has not yet been agreed between the two clubs and it seems there is some reluctance from Arsenal’s side to overpay.
A £42m deal has been mooted but it’s not yet known if Bologna have reached a full agreement as they want to drive his price up as much as possible due to a sell-on clause owed to Basel – Calafiori’s former club.
Riccardo Calafiori is desperate for Arsenal move
Whilst the two clubs continue to negotiate a fee for Calafiori, it’s understood that he has his heart set on a move to North London.
Personal terms have already been agreed with a five-year deal set to be signed worth a reported £3.8m-a-year. That quadruples his previous salary at Bologna.
A telling few days await but at this stage, all indications point towards the signing of Calafiori, who is considered ‘world class’, as quoted by Sky Sports.
In other news, a £35m Arsenal target compared to Luis Suarez has now decided that he wants to leave Italy
