'Just incredible': Arteta blown away by Arsenal first-teamers last 12 months, says he was 'really good' again today
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been singing the praises of Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli after another fine performance at Brentford today.
The young forward has made a starting spot his own in the Arsenal XI and despite not getting on the scoresheet against the Bees today, he was a constant thorn in the side of Thomas Frank’s side.
And speaking about Martinelli after the game, Mikel Arteta said he has been impressed with the Brazilian over the last 12 months, admitting his improvement has been massive.
“In a year, if you look at the game that he played here a year ago and today, it’s just incredible how fast they grow, they mature, they recognise situations, execution level, the understanding and even physically he looks a different player. I thought he was really good again today,” Arteta said of Martinelli.
Certainly, Martinelli’s development is a huge bonus for the Gunners. It is like having another new signing in the ranks, such has been his rise and improvement. Indeed, he’s keeping the likes of Smith Rowe out of the team, which is a good feat in itself.
TBR’s View: Martinelli An Arsenal Undroppable
Not many players can call themselves undroppable at the top clubs but Gabi Martinelli is at that level with Arsenal at the moment.
His performances this season have been absolutely electric and there is a big chance Martinelli becomes one of the players of the season for Arsenal. So far, he is right up there in that bracket and if he carries on as he is doing then the sky is the limit for him.
Mikel Arteta is rightfully delighted with his man and the Gunners boss will be hoping there is even more to come from his South American talent.
