Mikel Arteta lauds Calum Chambers’ display in Arsenal draw

Mikel Arteta has lauded Calum Chambers’s performance following Arsenal’s remarkable 3-3 draw with West Ham on Sunday – in comments made to Sky Sports.

Chambers was recalled for only his second Premier League start of the season at the London Stadium. Unfortunately, it looked destined to be a miserable return for the 26-year-old.

However, Arsenal fought back from 3-0 down to earn a point. And Chambers seemed to be crucial to their recovery, putting a number of outstanding crosses into the box that caused a host of problems.

And following the game, Arteta insisted that the defender vindicated his selection in some style.

“He was really good,” he told Sky Sports. “He’s been training really well. He’s a player who gives us something else. He was superb. He was really efficient in the final third as well. I think he had a great performance.”

TBR View: Chambers fighting for his future

The coming weeks are arguably going to be crucial for Chambers – who is on £50,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. On paper, it appears that he is potentially facing a fight to save his future at the Emirates.

Arsenal do not lack depth at centre-back or at right-back. And they have further options coming back into the fold when the likes of William Saliba and Konstantinos Mavropanos return from their loan spells.

Chambers is one of those who may have a point to prove. But if he continues to play as he did on Sunday, there is surely little chance of the England international not being in North London next season.
