According to a recent report, Mikel Arteta is desperately trying to convince a highly-rated player on the continent to join Arsenal this summer transfer window.
The North Londoners finished just two points short of title-winners Manchester City last season so the onus will be on Arteta to finally win the league for the first time since 2004.
Riccardo Calafiori is set to sign and help him in that feat and it seems The Gunners are now really keen to add a midfielder to their tanks.
Arteta is even in direct communication with him.

Mikel Arteta trying to convince Mikel Merino to join Arsenal
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Spain and Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino over the last few weeks.
TBR reported that Merino plans to discuss his future after Euro 2024 but it’s now understood that he’s been in direct communication with Arteta.
The Gunners boss has been personally trying to convince him to sign for Arsenal this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo, and the pair have had conversations over the phone.
Arsenal have great belief that they can reach an agreement with Sociedad to land his signature, which is expected to cost in the region of £21m due to his contract situation.
The former Newcastle midfielder, who has been labelled ‘world class’ per Caught Offisde, has one year remaining on his deal and isn’t expected to renew it.
Arsenal will be keeping tabs on Euro 2024 final
Arsenal will indeed be keeping close tabs on the Euro 2024 final this Sunday with Merino set to be involved in some capacity.
Though, he may not be the only player they’re watching as they’ll likely be scouting his compatriot Dani Olmo, who is on course to win the tournament’s Golden Boot award.
Olmo has a release clause active until Monday, July 15, so Arsenal will have to act fast if they are to activate it.
